Gosh the year is already flying by. I have a 65th birthday tomorrow and wish I was back in Australia to share it with my friends. We'd surely be going to the wonderful Wrest Point Casino on the edge of the Derwent River in Hobart for some afternoon tea. Magnificent and very, very English ... decadent I should say with heaps of gorgeous desserts.....  I can only be thankful that I wouldn't be going on the contraption below.  Yikes!

Not sure that I could handle one of these magnificent machines.....doesn't look too easy to steer or hang on to.  I guess it got them places and saved some walking but I wonder at what cost.  And trying to be on a bicycle in those clothes would be a nightmare.

Snow is piling up and up here in northern British Columbia. At least this week isn't supposed to be quite so cold but we'll still get more snow.  Deer foot prints tell me they have visited our little yard from the field and are always on the look out for sunflower seeds that might have fallen from the bird feeders.

Lots of sweet little chickadees flying around waiting for me to feed them and of course the squirrels think they own all the real estate so they are always arguing about who gets what.  Quite an adventure going down to the fence ... seeing whats been happening overnight and there are always heaps of different types of foot prints.

two pretty cards for you today ... please don't upload them to any other sharing places.

Happy New Year to you all.  I'm sitting here after shovelling snow .. it's been coming down all day and is piling up pretty quickly.  I hobbled around on the deck with the shovel and managed to get a lot of it tossed over the railing .. light as fluff ... thank goodness.  I sat here and thought I could change my blog background so I did what I usually do with blogspot and nothing worked only their templates so I chose (for the time being anyway) a nice beach scene that looks like I am back in Australia.  Phoned some friends over the holidays and had long, lovely chats ... they are enjoying hot weather .. whilst we are freezing up here in Canada.

I have been missing my Aussie mates this past week. Lots of parties and friends dropping by .... used to be my Christmas times .. but here in the snow its all different.  No Aussie friends visiting ... no parties .. just quiet, reflective hours watching the snow come down, snuggled up under a quilt or a fluffy blanket, drinking a yummy hot cup of tea and having some banana bread.  I've overloaded on the Christmas movies .. some good, most bad ... but they are all fun and I am constantly amazed at the homes they have in these movies. Everything is stunningly coordinated and filled to the brim with all the December trimmings like tinsel and bows down the bannisters of the stairs,  the biggest trees one could ever imagine, decorations to die for, cookies on the kitchen counters on santa plates, lights flickering all over the place and of course the outfits they are wearing.  Wow!   Fun but not very "normal".   Now its come and gone for another year.  And I'll be another year older soon in January.

On my travels this morning through my files looking for a new background I found some wonderful photos of animals all smooching and being kind to each other. Let's hope the world can do the same this year and treat each other properly.

My little deer in my yard ....

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. It all comes and goes so quickly.  Ours was quiet until the evening when we met up with friends and had a good old time ..  One of our beloved family members ...  (my dear sweet old grand dog Chewie) passed away just before the Christmas week  and I will miss him terribly.  He had a spectacular life filled with adventures and the love of a beautiful family which he cherished and adored.... RIP sweetheart ... I'm sure you are jumping around in heaven with my little cuties, Boswell, Wilbur and Dozer.

I'm missing being able to go down the yard to sit with my friends there .. pretty little hungry birds, silly and sweet squirrels, deer of course, a cat or two .. there is always something going on especially when everyone seems to be so hungry.  But I don't dare venture out onto the ice with my crutches.

Sat up for a long time early this morning watching the hostage situation back home in Sydney, Australia. Such a sad outcome for those two hostages who lost their lives ... but I guess it could have been very much worse.

Stay safe ... a pretty christmas desktop wallpaper for you computer..

Still healing from my bad fall on the ice. Can't walk and can't sit at the computer but I did want to wish everyone who visits my blog .. a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.  Stay safe ...
Best wishes from Jana

I had a bad fall on the ice last week.... now I'm on crutches.  Not sure what is broken .. had x-rays on Friday now just have to wait for the results.  Worst of all .. my dear old hubby wasn't here to help me so it was a trying time ... can't do much ... just waiting to recover ...

Snow and ice on the trees just like in this image.  Lots of birds zooming in and around me as I put out their seeds.  gosh I love seeing them all.. they are so busy and sweet and still sing me their songs as they fly back and forth with a peanut......
Airline cancellations, freezing rain, hits the ground and immediately turns to ice .... hubby tried to fly out of town for three days to visit sick relatives and had to stay put ... darkness coming so very early now ...  it definitely isn't good weather we're having up here in the woods of northern British Columbia.  I'm feeling a bit like I'm marooned ... no vehicle to use and can't get out and about so I'm stuck inside till he returns.  At least it will give me some time to get creative for my Etsy shoppe and make some new things. Missing my darling husband...

Please don't upload this image to any other places.

I guess winter is here .. although not quite yet as it seems we've about 4 weeks to go before it officially starts but frozen water pipes are no fun and that's what we woke up to this morning. Yikes.. thank goodness we have a good supply of bottled water ... so some of that went into the kettle so I could have my cup of tea and some toast.  More water went for hand washing and cleaning teeth. Something we all take for granted and its not until you have none coming from the taps that you really appreciate how much of it you use and how important it is in your life.   It took all day for the water to come back on .. toilet was working again, I was able to wash my hands .. (didn't realise how often I go to the taps to do that during the day) ...   and today I have washing going in the machine, dishwasher working, bath time, (yeah! I can wash my hair) ...  I'm happy that I wasn't in the process of colouring my hair and then having found out there was no water to rinse it out.

I'd have been howling like these beautiful guys had I not had water pretty soon to use for so many purposes.

Did I tell you here on my blog about my beautiful old Dozer dog who was nearly a wolf .. big white one ... and we were walking together a couple of years ago, when he heard the ambulance coming along the road.  He stopped in his tracks, raised his head and looked to the sky and howled like a wolf.

He obviously didn't like the screeching of the siren ... I laughed and hugged him .. he sure was a character and I miss him every single day. I visit his grave every day and I told him this morning that there were four deer right there next to him... and the gorgeous stellar jay blue bird was so cold out there that he plopped himself down on the wooden fence post and bent his legs so his feathers would cover them like a magnificent blue evening skirt.

The chickadees were flying around impatiently waiting for me to put out their seeds and the peanuts they like so much ...  the deer had ice on their heads and backs and they too must have been cold.   Sun was shining though and it made the ice sparkle on the grass and trees ....  so pretty living here in Canada with the wildlife and all the stunning trees.   Rivers, canyons, mountains covered with snow,  so very different from my life in Australia where I'd be out on the deck now sipping something cool and wondering if I should go to the beach for a while.

A beautiful little humming bird I received in my mail today. Hubby emailed me ... he knows I love birds and all animals.  This little cutie is spectacular with his wonderful, wonderful, tail feathers. Wow ...
My squirrel was chasing the woodpecker today instead of the stellar jay so as usual its a circus out there with him jumping from branch to branch ... he nearly falls sometimes ... and of course the deer were oblivious to all the mayhem and kept eating the leaves which had fallen from the tree.   The hummingbirds are always gorgeous when they visit in the spring and summer ...  colours are like jewels encrusted on a beautiful evening gown.

A couple of my cute little critters I feed each day.  The squirrel has been around for a few years now and the beautiful blue Stellar Jay is gorgeous .. he's stashing the peanuts away in the yard ... It's quite a nature trip just going down to the back fence ... lots to see and enjoy.

Halloween over for another year.  Not many kids about this time ... so we have left overs which is okay by me.  One little girl .. just like last year... came to the door and said to me Twick or Tweet .. so funny.. they all looked cute and had a good stash of candy in their sacks.   I was glad when it was all over actually and the fireworks had stopped. It seems everyone had pooled their fireworks into one big stash and the noise went on forever.  I always used to hate it when my darling doggies were terrified of the noises.  Some of those screeching rockets frightened me too.  I can only imagine what the animals in the woods thought of it all.    Now its onto Christmas I guess. Decorations will be out in the stores on Monday ........  looking forward to the snow on the trees .. they always look glorious. I love Christmas in the snow.

Beautiful deer in our backyard this morning. It's cold, drizzly and foggy and they were there eating the bird seed tossed out by the birds.   There is snow up on the hills and of course on the mountains but not on our ground yet ... sometime today I think it will arrive.  It makes me think of Christmas and I adore it.

Halloween is this coming week. Where on earth did October go to so quickly.  Hubby's birthday tomorrow so we might go for a walk in the woods.  The trees are absolutely gorgeous and I love finding the really big leaves that fall .. in all colours and sizes.  I am quite looking forward to winter so I can sit in my new leather recliner chair with my white faux fur rug on me and watch some of my favourite English murder mysteries, or Downton Abbey..etc.   Nothing nicer than a comfy chair and a hot cup of tea.. scones too of course or perhaps some banana bread. If large fluffy snow flakes start coming down I usually run outside and stand on the deck with my arms out so they will land on my black sweater.  I know, I'm weird ...  :-)

Beautiful morning today .. misty and quiet, serene and chilly ... looking out over the field I saw the deer coming to visit the bird feeders.  There were 7 in their little group and it was wonderful to see them as we  usually do when winter is nearly upon us.  Sadly I could hear gun shots going off because hunting season is in full mode. Luckily the deer were close to our town and they are not allowed to be shot so close to the populated area.  I wish all the deer in British Columbia would come to the field and stay safe.  Breaks my heart to know many of them will die this season.

I also had a visit from an absolutely gorgeous bird called a Stellar Jay and he's about half the size of a crow and has the most magnificent coloured feathers of black and gradually going into the brightest blue ... I'd never seen one before and he's full of energy and interest for me to give him peanuts in their shells which he diligently takes and positions into the soft lawn which is covered with leaves. He pushes the peanut into the soft earth with his beak and pecks at it like a wood pecker, driving it as deep as it will go then he covers it with some of the leaves and flies back to the tree for me to give him more nuts.    I guess by his activities he'll be around all winter now to claim his food stash once the snow gets deep and the weather is really cold.   I love him... he's very special and clever.  I'm glad I'll be seeing him during the long winter months.

I have found out why the geese "honk" as they fly above me going south for the winter. I love hearing them and they make such a noise its incredible.  Seems they are talking to their other family members ... giving them guidance I guess or telling them which way they are meant to be flying.  Also found out (after wondering about it) ... how or why they fly at night as well as daylight.  With the thousands of miles they need to fly they get overheated flapping their beautiful big wings ... so the night air keeps them much cooler so they can fly further and faster.   Nature sure is marvellous.

Christmas isn't far away .... Halloween first though .... time goes so quickly I just can't keep up.  The little birds are stashing away the seeds and so is the squirrel for the long, long cold winter.
I feel a bit like an old bear too .... getting ready to more or less "hibernate" for the snowy months because it gets too cold to go anywhere and our little country town doesn't have many places to go... A visit to the supermarket or the doctor or drugstore will just about be it ...

I love these pretty vintage images. I might have to use this one and create something for my Etsy Shoppe...

It certainly is Fall around here... our lawn is covered in pretty yellow and caramel coloured leaves and my little squirrel is working so hard to put away the stash of peanuts and sunflower seeds I've given out.  Birds are flocking to the feeders and the beautiful, gorgeous geese have been flying over in their thousands heading south for the winter.  They have such long journeys to make and I always wish them safe travelling, looking skywards and enjoying their honking and chatter as they go.    So I guess snow won't be too far away ... it already feels like it should be here.

Aussie football grand final was exciting ..... watching it live was great. Made me think I was there with all my Australian mates enjoying the drinks, parties and barracking for a great team.   Now today I've had to catch up on some sleep.
