This wallpaper is hot off the press.  Made it just before I head off to bed.  I loved the flowers and since all mine are disintegrating into the ground again ready for the onslaught of winter .. as I guess most northern hemisphere gardens would also be doing ... perhaps the readers of my blog from the southern hemisphere will also like it because their spring and summer is coming.    What more could you want to cheer you up when you turn on your computer.  It's very large, very gorgeous... so click to see it full size and don't forget to use your computer magnifying option if it doesn't fill up your screen immediately.  I have just installed it on mine and wow!!!  It's beautiful.
I wanted to take some photos today of the gorgeous yellow trees that are surrounding us here in the woods.  We went to our favourite little place near the river where my dog Wilbur would love to swim but now it all looks so very different. I think if he'd been able to join us there today he wouldn't have recognised the place.  The beavers had been working hard on blocking the river and the course of it had changed dramatically.  There were a few salmon swimming there and it is such a nice, peaceful place to sit and contemplate whatever .. (s) .....  I love going there and it was sad that my beautiful Wilby could not again play there with his mum in the water.  I sure do miss his pretty face and playful times we had.

You could see the reflections of the trees in the water ....there were bear tracks and beaver marks .. chewed off tree bits and although we looked for their living space we think the beavers  were long gone.  I'd like to think they just moved on and that nothing bad happened to them.  I love those little guys who work from the moment they are born and hear running water.  It's instict to immediately stop if flowing.
You can click on the image below to see it larger...and there are two salmon in the foreground.

I have posted a "blog topper" here for you if you wish to save it.  Click on the image to see it full size and add your blog name and catch line etc.

It comes from the Blog Topper Collection at whimsydust.com ...
there's about 50 or so to use in your blogs  which makes it very easy for you to change the headers around from time to time.

If you are a regular visitor here you know I love changing the look of my blog.
It seems Michelle Obama has had enough of the White House and her husband.  Looks like there's going to be a split in the relationship sooner than later. She hates him for dragging her through "all this" as she puts it.  Surely she must have known it wasn't going to be easy. Now she says she'll leave him if he seeks a second term as President.  I think the fairytale is going down the gurglar like the American economy has already.  I hate seeing things get so bad for the Americans because it all reflects upon the rest of the world as well.  I hope someone soon will realise that spending and spending money you do not have is not the way to keep the country afloat.

Then there's the news today about Facebook being a home for pedophiles.  I have no doubts about this one.
I have hated FaceBook for a long time and although I'm a member I do not post anything there. When are they going to do something about it.  "The world’s largest pro-pedophilia advocacy group uses Facebook to connect with its members throughout the world; to find and exchange photos of children; to hone its members' predatory behavior; and to identify, target and reel in child victims, an investigation by FoxNews.com reveals. "   This is absolutely horrible.   Be very careful what you say on Facebook to all these so called "friends" whom you have never met other than sharing words on a computer ... and who really knows who is who on internet.  Don't tell them your ilfe story, or give out addresses or personal stuff.  They could be anyone and not who you think.

Gosh my big wide 23 inch computer screen ... sometimes looks like I'm at the drive in.  Reading the huge screen we used to sit in front of on Saturday nights mostly with a good bunch of our Aussie mates.  I can remember going with my fiance and his friends and my Old English sheepdog one night.  Boswell was gorgeous and he loved being included in our outings so off we went.  He sat in the front seat ... it was an old Ford Falcon with a bench sort of seat and there was plenty of room for three.  We went to the cafeteria at half time and returned with a huge stash of chips ... (or french fries as they call them here in Canada).  Well Boswell got sick of the chips being passed back and forth across his nose so he decided he wanted the lot and his face ended up in the container.  So he did indeed get them all.

Then there were the guys who would sneak in the boot (trunk) of the car.  Not our car of course .. *s...  but you could see them from your parked space getting out of the rear ends of vehicles when the lights went down.  And what about the people who would accidentally drive off with the speakers still attached to their wind screens.  It was quite an effort to find your car in the dark when all those rows across and up and down all looked the same.  One needed some sort of map to locate your car again.  I loved going to the drive in. Parents could take their kids in pyjamas,  nobody bothered to get dressed up ..... and you could always park next to your pals if they went as well.  It's a shame they have all gone.  I think the kids today have missed out on a wonderful experience.  We all used to hope that it didn't rain.    Wow!!!! just looked up drive ins on internet and there are indeed quite a few open.  What a treat .... !!

A new look today for my blog... although I like the whimsical look and modern, bright colours I also like the vintage, elegant and retro designs.  I seem to be venturing into a scrappy, shabby, digital collage sort of trip .. I sure do like these old costumes with the lace, hats, ribbons, bows, hat boxes, gorgeous picture frames, and the old way of life with its prettiness, and over the top decorations and interiors.  Swags on the curtains, chandeliers, bell pulls to summon the butler or maids, bedposts with lace and chiffon and whatever other fabric they turned into canopies ... heavens knows what the dust was like up there on top ... *s  ....   Lamps and linens,  lacey hankerchiefs... (does anyone actually use those anymore - I remember my mother loved them).  Gloves in all colours, umbrellas with fancy handles, little bags with strings to pull them shut,  candlesticks (I found three big gorgeous ones last weekend at a garage sale) ... when I got my chandelier.
All those things are reflected on my website so hop over there for a peak if you are yet to do so.  I love creating and there is so much to enjoy .. and purchase if you wish... prices are cheap, cheap, cheap.

A cool, funky idea....  I might have to do this.   I love old books... or their covers ...
http://www.hungrypanda.net/blog/2010/02/book-purse-tutorial/
Here is another one ... using placemats... now thats an even better idea because there are some really pretty ones about... especially in the summer.

I have been watching a great new version of Sherlock Holmes these past few weeks...   I love this one.  Very clever actor Benedict Cumberbatch who I've seen in other British shows plays Sherlock and its set in the present. Which means Sherlock has a cell phone, a computer, and all the trimmings and trappings of modern day.... and Dr John Watson keeps track of the stories not by writing them into a manuscript but onto a blog.  I hope they continue to make more of these for Masterpiece Mystery.   It certainly is different and very intriging.

You can click on the image to see more of the dynamic duo  and read about the production.

With my new windows 7 operating system I at least have found one thing I like and that's the desktop wallpaper thingy where you can make your pretty images look so different on the screen.  Wider, tiled, shorter, centered etc...  the XP also did that but in a different way ....  but there is still so much I don't enjoy with windows 7 and could scream at Microsoft for keeping on altering every darn thing we liked, used, learned etc each time they bring out a new version.   Too many bells and whistles on this one for my liking.  I think they cater more for the young ones who want to keep up with texting, downloading movies, etc.  Give me email and a good search engine and a digital imaging program that works like psp or photoshop and that will do me.    Anyway here is a desktop for you to add to your collection.  I'd love to hear if any of you enjoy them.

Today as Ahmadinejad walked from the podium at the United Nations, he did so rewarded by applause in the August chamber of the world body. The President of Iran.......  spouted forth once again how the USA was responsible for 9.11.  Why on earth is this guy allowed to enter the United States and continue this terrible  behaviour time and time again.

“ It’s outrageous,” said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley. “a short distance from here, nine years ago, three-thousand people were killed in an attack perpetrated by nineteen people, and an attack that was orchestrated by Al Qaeda. We know exactly who did it, they’ve admitted it, the facts are not in dispute, so for the President of Iran to come here and make the suggestion that somehow this was an American plot, is simply outrageous.”

Why do we continue to allow an organization like the U.N., who let's a lunatic to say whatever promotes his evil agenda, to exist on U.S. soil?  It's been a useless organisation for decades now.  The USA needs to stop funding it. I'd be so mad if I was an American citizen paying taxes knowing that they let this guy in with his vile comments.
You can save the wallpaper for your desktop by clicking on the image and seeing it full size.
It looks great on my 23 inch screen.  :-)

Our furnace has been coming on ... keeping us warm in the chilly after summer days.  I think today is the first day of Fall or Autumn as we say back in Oz.  Yesterday I dumped my previously pretty potplants that had bloomed gorgeously over the spring and summer.  They had been frozen .. what was left of them... so now my deck is once again bare and it won't be long before we have to bundle up the conifers at the front of our house because the deer really enjoy mkunching on them when food is scarce.    The summer comes and goes all too quickly and its such a long wait again till I see flowers around me.  When we finally sell our house and move I'll be able to enjoy the flowers for longer ... it's not so cold down there where we plan to go ... and most of the apartment buildings have patios packed with flowers .. it's all very pretty.  I think we'll be here for the winter however as it's not the time of year now to be selling ..............

A little cutie on a desktop wallpaper for you.

Click to see it original size 1250 x 800 and install or save it from there

It's from the Bonus Bundle at whimsydust.com Collections.
I had some fun this morning. A friend rang to tell us about a couple of garage sales so hubby and I biked over to see what was for sale.  We spent $16 ... and I came home with a chandelier, a cream coloured porcelain heart shaped box with roses on it, some very pretty trivets to stand our hot dishes on ... a lacey box that I'm going to give to grand daughter, also got an elegant candle holder and 4 napkin rings in the shape of gold bows. .   It was fun looking and I had my eye on the chandelier which was only $10 but wasn't sure if we could get it hooked up over our table.  So we continued on our bike ride over to the grocery store and on the way back I called back into the yard sale to see if anyone had purchased the chandelier. Yes they had and they were going to come back to get it.

Well I really would have loved it and as usual I should have got it when it first caught my eye... so I asked the lady if she would phone me if by chance the other lady didn't return for it.  So an hour later when they were ready to close up shop the phone rang and it was her telling me I could have it.... so I got over there pretty fast and now am the proud owner of a very pretty light fitting.  I love it.  Very shabby chic ......its got all its bits but we will have to get an electrician to install it for us and it will definitely be coming with me if we sell our house.
I love these yard sales and there won't be too many more this year ............

Beautiful sunshine seems to be bursting forth in a last ditch effort to keep summer with us but alas... snow is on the mountains in the distance and the bird bath water is getting frozen every night.   I fed the birds this morning and there were a few more about ... I guess they will soon be filling up as much as possible just like the bears because the winter is not far away. Shops in town have Halloween costumes and Fall scarecrows, and other goodies... candy of course for the kids on Halloween ...  and our trees around us are turning yellow and golden reds. It's such a pretty time of the year although its kind of sad to see one's flowers dying off.   I did love my petunias this year.  Lots of pretty pots out on the huge deck made it a lovely place to sit and listen to the bird songs and enjoy the summery days.     Oh well !!   I'm hoping there are still some people around who want to buy homes because ours is up for sale and its such a slow market.
You can click on the image to save it full size... hope you like it. Artist is of course, Mary Engelbriet.

the white roses.

Oprah - Miss Deceitful

The other day ... on the first episode of the last season of the Oprah show she surprised her 300 member audience with a trip downunder to Australia which they will be taking in December.  Everyone .. jumping around, crying, getting all excited and happy.  Good for her!   EXCEPT she is not paying for the trip at all.  The Australian government is.  She has not told the audience or the rest of the world that she isn't paying the nearly $3 million dollars it will cost.  Really sneaky ... really deceitful if you ask me and that's why I don't like her anymore and neither it seems do most other people.   I find that she always films every single thing she does ... makes a big deal out of it every time to show her tv audience ... yet other stars donate millions of dollars with no publicity at all.   I often wonder too... no matter how good her intentions are about creating a girls school in South Africa... why isn't she doing that at home in the USA.

Surely there are enough needs for this to happen in her own country.   The Aussies .. and rightly so.... are mad as hell that the government is forking out this taxpayer money for her audience and her to come visit despite the publicity for my country.  It's all a bit sneaky if you ask me.  Oprah is getting the accolades and cheers for taking her audience to Oz ... whoopee ding as my hubby would say ... its not costing her anything.   I hate it when people are like that.....

Michelle Obama is on a multi million dollar spending spree.  She has no thoughts of the millions unemployed or the bad economy. She has plans for more expensive vacations with friends in the New Year and loves buying designer dresses.

No cut backs for her as the country struggles with the worst recession ever. White House advisers hit the roof when they heard of her plans. They have told the president he quickly needs to get his wife “under control” because her reckless spending – on trips, shopping and redecorating – is sending an intensely negative message to Americans in a bad economy and could undermine his re-election plans.
Re-electing him won't bother me... I'm not an American but I sure do feel bad for what he is doing to the country.

I wonder if Michelle has any hats like this pretty one.  These vintage ladies sure were elegant .... but I guess only if you were rich enough to afford the pretties.  I think we see a glamourized version of "Victorian and vintage" from movies and old photographs because most of the people were probably poor working class women with not one elegant dress in their closet.
I think Michelle probably has carpenters in the White House making her some more closets to put all these mind blowing expensive outfits in.

A pretty lady on the balcony for you to save if you do that....  click on the image to see it original size.  I've been fiddling with resolution sizes on my new computer and heavens above ... what a difference it all makes to how we view things.  I will have to now add a little note on the things I sell telling everyone that they will look smaller on larger screens ... and bigger on smaller screens ... so they will now have to decide how they wish to view everything.   It's really a pity that we all don't use the same settings with our computers because even with stationery or colours etc it can all look so varied.

Sun is shining today so I might get outside a bit and tidy up my little garden and potted plants. They are on their last legs for this year .... lots have begun to die off and get ready to go into whatever hibernation they do for the long freezing winter months when they are covered with about 6 feet of ice.  Before I came to Canada I never realised that all that pretty soft snow that falls .... hardens up and becomes solid ice after a little while.  It's like cement.   Anyway have a great day .......

Rain, rain, go away .. come again another day.  I shouldn't say that because I love the rain but its becoming a bit monotonous here in the woods this past week. Every day has been overcast, drizzly and all throughout the night and now its coming down in bucket loads.  Not much to do when the weather is like this .... apart from enjoying our new computer and trying to figure out a few more things that don't seem to be as easy to use as they were with Windows XP.     Yesterday morning bloomed bright and cheery however, so I ventured across the road to the lady's garage sale.  She is selling her home too and has lots of stuff to get rid of.   I came home with a very pretty lamp... it's very delicate and elegant,  also got myself a pretty Japanese design tea set for $8.00,  a really neat wrought iron candle stick thingy ... like I had back in Australia... it holds about 8 candles.  Looks a bit like a chandelier.   Also some more books which I love.. by favourite authors and as I was leaving I looked around a bit more and found a wonderful full size cardboard cutout of John Wayne.  He's so nice and I knew my Brian would love him.

He's now perched very majestically in our video room next to all his movies.  Gotta love the "Duke"... one never knows what you'll find at a garage sale.  They are so much fun but coming to an end for the year very quickly. Winter is coming and the days are drawing in so much earlier now. Darkness comes early at night and stays with us so much longer in the mornings.  Right up here at nearly the top of the world sure is weird at times.

Sadness today as I watched the memorial services for September 11th.  Who can forget those awful things happening on this day 9 years ago.  One statistic I heard ... those people who died in the attacks .... left behind 800 children.  And I cannot forget the thought of all those fire fighters going up into those twin towers to rescue people.  They had no chance ..........

I sure do hope that we never forget this attack ...
Today terrorists are more home grown than ever before.  They are among us all.

Friday, September 10, 2010

Every morning when I wake up and turn on the telly I wonder what will be on the news. This morning it was awful to see and hear about the terrible, terrible gas explosion in San Francisco.  Houses were blown up .. in a whole neighbourhood.  Then of course its the ninth anniversary of nine eleven.  I can't believe its been that long since the planes went into the Twin Towers and so many people lost their lives in the terror attacks on the USA.   Nothing seems to change ...  now the new threat is home grown terrorists.  People born in the USA who want to kill Americans.  They go to Somalia or wherever to train as terrorists and then come home and want to kill as many people as they can.    Then there is the debacle over the mosque at Ground Zero.  It's a terrible idea and one that seems to be going to happen .. despite protests.   The guy who wants to build the darn thing has ties to terrorists and is a crook himself so I'm appalled that the city is allowing it to happen.   I'll say some prayers today for those who died 9 years ago.

Wow my new computer arrived this morning and so far I'm not liking it one bit.  My Font Navigator isn't compatible with windows 7, neither is our printer, neither is Outlook Express so all my pretty stationery efforts have gone by the wayside as they say.   Can't get my paintshop pro to install, can't get rid of a whole bunch of things I don't like on the screen, can't even preview my moderated mail applications I need to look at as owner of a yahoo group so I don't know how I'm going to figure that one out.   It wouldn't all be so bad if a new computer was what we wanted but when your hard drive crashes and you lose everything you loved and used its a real pain.   oh well..  I shall persevere and hopefully it might look better for me tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

This is a very pretty vintage wallpaper for your computer... I have it on my old one right now and its so soft and delicate and very elegant.   I guess this might be the last thing I create on this good old computer because our new one arrives day after tomorrow so I'll be busy loading it up with all my working bits and pieces and programs I use.    Anyway click on the image to see it full size and save or install it to your computer from there.   It's a big one 1250 x 800 .... it should look great on my big new 23 inch desktop .... yipee ... I'm looking forward to it being a high speed working machine....  *(s)   I think it will be like going from riding a bicycle to being on the space shuttle....

A couple of "extras" for you to add to your stash.   Until I get my new computer with a dvd drive I can't access my pretty folders of all the goodies I have made .... darn thing.  I have a couple of weeks wait for a new hard drive and larger screen so I'm anxiously waiting. In the meantime I've found a few things for you on my old hard drive so I'm sharing those.   Hope you like them and can use them. Click on the images to see them full size and save from there.

Please don't forget to go down my blog page a bit and click on the animal site to help feed and rescue them. They need us all and it doesn't take much of your time to go and click .. it's all free... the sponsors pay for food and shelter for them.  Please do it ..... regularly.....

Here's a really neat idea.  Tea cup candles.  Get some pretty teacups and saucers from a thrift shop .. and some of those big candles you can buy at dollar stores.  Melt down the candles and place the wax into the cup... add a wick from the original candle and if you want coloured ones just melt a crayon into the wax.

I love this idea.  I'll be on the lookout now for elegant cups and saucers at garage sales and the Salvation Army store that we regularly take stuff to.

Some cards for you today... click on the images to see them full size and save them from there.
