Holey Moley it is cold here today. Minus about 35 with the wind chill . ..  All I can say is roll on Spring. March already tomorrow... the year is going by so quickly.

I didn't bother to watch the Academy Awards last  night and by all accounts I didn't miss much. They say it was terrible.  I think they need to get back to shorter ceremonies... they get so long and boring... and having some "real" film stars as presenters ....like the old days.....

I don't think there is even one movie star that I'm "over the moon" about...and would be anxious to see. They all are much the same nowadays.  And most of the movies are all the same too.  Obligatory car chases, gun fire etc or silly romantic comedies that are nothing much at all.   I guess that's why I love Turner Classic movie channel were the stars really knew how to act and the movie didn't consist of a thousand or more special affects.  The acting was real ... the storylines were better.....

Donald trump it seems, is going to take a run at being President of the United States.  And he's prepared to spend 200 milliion dollars of his own money to do so.   Gosh I hate it when all these people have so much money that they can "buy" their way into power.  I don't mind the old Donald. He seems to know what he's doing when he's heading his own money making endeavours but it doesn't seem fair that the ordinary person who does not have that much money to spend ... really will never have a chance up against those millionaires who can pay for as many television ads as they want ... or election campaigns.   All the money Meg Whitman spent on her California campaign just recently didn't help her though.  I think it was about $150 million of her own money.  Yikes.  I don't get it.  When you have that much money isn't there something else in life that you would prefer to be doing than political aspirations.

I had a treat today ...  touched a little deer on the nose.  *s

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I added a little image today listing some of my favourite things.  My list could have gone on forever when I think of treasured friends, chocolate cake, cheesecake, the beautiful little deer which I feed every day, the birds that sing me their sweet songs, keeping company with the characters from the books I read, playing my Sherlock Holmes games on the computer, sitting in my comfy chair watching English vintage dramas on the telly, Mary Engelbreit and her wonderful, colourful artworks, the bear photos from calendars I have on the wall next to the computer, ..... and appreciating all the things we take for granted like fresh air, sunshine and snow, warmth when its super cold outside, food in our bellies, just being safe and quiet and able to reflect on the good things in our lives and not concentrate on the bad stuff.  And receiving your comments when you enjoy something I've posted to my blog....*s
A pretty card for you to add to your stash...  I added some of my
hand painted flowers and of course a pretty hat for "mi lady".

Earthquake in New Zealand - prayers for everyone there. Terrible, terrible devastation and death toll.
Plus 4 Americans killed by pirates whilst they were travelling in their yacht handing out bibles to people around the world it seems.  One has to wonder why people would even go into these areas knowing the dangers of these crazy pirates who have some 600 or more people held hostage from ships they have taken over.  I don't understand that one at all. Why aren't the ships firing upon these few guys who turn up in tiny boats and take over huge tankers etc.
Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi ordering pilots to fire weapons on rioters.  Can you imagine that .. being ordered to kill your countrymen ... instead they defected to another country, landing their planes in Syria I think ......  good heavens what a bad news day it is already ..... :-(

An Easter image you might be able to use ...
there are so many lovely vintage artworks .. on postcards etc....

This year seems to be flying by.  And I'll be glad to once again see some greeen grass and enjoy sitting out on our big deck with a long cool drink and perhaps a Kindle so I can read my victorian mystery books .....  *(s)

I created a new Yahoo group this afternoon. I know lots of you enjoy vintage stuff like I do ... and I love talking about it, the books I read, the graphics I save and share. Things I make etc.  It's called "Bloomsbury House" and I'm sure you will find lots of pretty things there like stationeries, tags, misted graphics, paintshop pro tubes, interesting links to all things Victorian and elegant.   You are invited to join.  The link is down the right hand side of my blog...or  you can go there via the image below.

Cute animation of some baby owls.... *(s)
I think the little birds around here would be huddled up to find some warmth lately.
It's super cold.... Bless them all ... I do not understand how they survive and I guess
many of them don't.  I was hurting this morning just from putting seeds in the bird feeder
without my gloves on.  I came in and headed for the bathroom sink which I filled with hot
water to soak my hands in.   On the weather map this evening some places in northern
Canada were having minus 40 and more temperatures.  That's cruel ...

3 a.m. and its minus 20 degrees.  Creaking and cracking of the ice on the deck woke me up.  Wood expands, metal snaps and all sorts of weird noises happen out there in the cold.. and of course the furnace comes on more often.   It's very cold ......  this is the part of winter I don't much like. Snow I can cope with but all the ice happening makes everything difficult especially walking .... even just along the little icey path to the deer and bird feeders.  They will be out in force today ... deer and birds ... asking me for food ....  sweet little things.

I guess a nice hot cup of tea might put me back to sleep after I've read a few more chapters of my latest M. C. Beaton book called Death of a Valentine.  A Hamish McBeth mystery... about a Scottish policeman who the ladies think is wonderful.... which of course he is if he's the star of the book.   Great series by a very clever author .........  some of these ladies write so many books so quickly.   I have just also read Death at Whitechapel by a husband and wife mystery writing team who go by the name of Robin Paige. I'm looking forward to reading more of their Victorian themed mysteries.  I enjoyed the Whitechapel story .... based on historical facts and theories about who Jack the Ripper was.  I don't think we'll ever really know.

It looks like the purchase of a Kindle for me has been put on hold...*(s)  I have hungry little deer coming for food and we needed to buy some more cracked corn for them and some barley and rolled oats. They sure are beautiful when they come to visit and its been happening on a daily basis since the snow has deepened and the temperature has plummeted.  One little guy this morning was outside the gate when I told him to be patient till I opened the shed door and got the food out into the big jugs .... he obviously was very hungry because when I turned around he was standing right behind me.

I've been looking up information about the Kindle from Amazon and I really do want one.  It would be great to have the font I like and the size of the writing easier for me to read.  And not only that you can tell it to read to you which would be fantastic when the old eyes get sore and blurry from the diabetes I have.   They have pretty "skins" you can purchase to cover the Kindle ... and lovely all coloured cases to keep them safe in ones bag.  Oh well.... maybe when the Spring comes and my deer no longer need food I'll be able to get one for myself.   I would much prefer to have some food for them ................

Lots of deer came today to visit me. Perhaps they knew it was Valentine's Day and they wanted to say they loved me for feeding them... *(s).   Who knows what they really think.  I do know that they are such beautiful little creatures and that they wait patiently for me to go to the shed and get out the food for them.  Today we had a squirrel in the feeder as well helping himself to all that he could stash in his little white belly and also take away with him. Sometimes I think I should put up a sign .... Jana's TakeAway ... something like that because they all sure do stand in line and wait for this old Aussie lady to help fill up their bellies in the long cold winter months.  Soon though it will be spring. The days are lengthening and our snow melts a little some days and other days it gets more but when the sun shines and the little birds chirp their songs it really does feel like spring is on the way.

Happy Valentine's Day.... heard on the news that chocolate is going up in price....  bring out the kleenex... so sad.  Oh well... I can't eat much of it anyway.  I hope you and yours have a wonderful day.

Busy looking after a sick husband over the past two days. I think I've done more washing in those two days than I have in a month.  It sure is no fun when the one you love isn't the bright and happy person you are wanting to see.

A little get well card for anyone who wishes to use it....

Don't forget to check out the "Sentimentals" collection at whimsydust.com
It's all new and so pretty.... lots of uses for them in your designing.
Often in the summer one of our favourite visitors to our bird feeders are woodpeckers. I hadn't seen one till I came to Canada and I think they are so pretty.  I've heard their pecking noise echo throughout the wooded area behind our little home.  And I've seen them pecking on the trees on my way over to the library.  And last week we saw a whole bunch of phone company repair workers in trucks all along the highway through town.   Our newspaper this morning .. says "Telus works to repair woodpecker damage."

"Telus crews were replacing six kilometres of cable last week due to damage done by resident woodpeckers. For some reason they seem attracted to the cable.  The new cable, with a price tag of $130,000 is double-armoured so they shouldn't have this problem in the future.  Telus had been receiving some complaints of static in the phone lines as well as degraded high speed internet connections, which they expect this repair to clear up. "

God love them.. I think that is so funny.  Woodpeckers pecking on the phone lines. Not the phone poles. The holes hold water hence the damage. No wonder we thought our high speed connection was slower than it should be.....

Isn't this fellow absolutely gorgeous... He likes playing in the snow obviously. My Aussie dog Wilbur loved to push his face around in the snow and he would come out looking like this fellow ...  with out those huge whiskers of course.

Our snow is piling up .. but spring isn't too far away now that we have passed the half way of winter.

I'm looking forward to seeing some green lawn and having some flowers bloom again.

I can't believe this. In this day and age with Google Earth and all the internet and research and maps etc at their fingertips... American CNN and Britians Daily Mail have "rearranged" Australia to suit themselves.

US media giant CNN's reporting of Cyclone Yasi blew Queensland off the map, when it depicted the weather-ravaged state as being in Tasmania.  Yikes ... Tassie hasn't got enough room to be Queensland.  And British press  added another state by splitting the real Queensland in half and calling it Capricornia.   The international news breaker was roundly mocked around the world, when its map of Australia on a news bulletin pointed to Queensland being several thousand kilometres south in a bulletin last week.
Britain's Daily Mail also redrew Australia's State boundaries last week, splitting Queensland in half and adding a seventh state, Capricornia.  wow ... I wonder who they have working for them....  preschoolers perhaps....  *(s)

News today is that Chelsea Clinton wants a divorce .. after only 6 months of marriage. It seems the husband .. who had a top notch job in Washington has now fled to one of the skiing places and has a job as a ski bum...whatever that is.   Then there is Suzanne Somer's disasterous plastic surgery .......yikes ... why do they do this to themselves.  Google it .. photos of Suzanne Somers to see the once pretty face of the star of Three's Company ....  she's scarey now.   Busy day today around here .. doing all sorts of things :-) ...  I'll be glad to get to bed. I googled the Kindle ... would luv one of those ... they even have very snazzy and pretty cases to put them in ......  I looked them up after the books I ordered online from our libary were unavailable ...darn it.... now I have to find some more to order from the library.

This year we will experience 4 unusual dates 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11, ...take the last 2 digits of the year you were born plus the age you will be this year it will equal 111.  This won't ever happen again in our lifetime....
gosh haven't the Aussies had enough to cope with ... all that flooding .. now poor old Queensland is going to have the biggest cyclone in history.  I keep them all in my prayers. I remember way back when one morning it was Christmas Day and we all woke up to Queensland having had a cyclone during the night. Homes were gone.... christmas trees and gifts under those trees.... it was awful.  ~~~~~~~~~~  and then there is the uprising in the middle east. What the heck is going to emerge from all those people protesting and governments changing.  I'm fearful that it will put more radical muslims in charge and terrorists will get the upper hand.  Frightening times we live in.

On the right hand side of my blog you will see "nutrition search".   Just added it this morning and you can simply type in a word ... for instance ... chocolate ... and see what the nutritiion facts are about it.

You don't have to leave my blog to do so. Might come in handy on those days when a chocolate chip cookie is a must...and you wish to find out how much damage you'll be doing to your diet.
